Is accutane the best type of acne medication? Are the generic brands like sotret not work as well?
Question by roxy: Is accutane the best type of acne medication? Are the generic brands like sotret not work as well?
I’ve been breaking out for 1 1/2 years now and my dermatologist recommended almost everything to me and it only made my skin worse i think. now i have acne scars and my skin is fair and it makes the blemishes much more noticeable. Finally my dermatologist recommended accutane for me, but my pharmacy didnt have it and gave me sotret (a generic brand) instead. Does it not work as well as accutane?

Although acne may get worse within the first month of Accutane use, the ultimate results are usually dramatic. Accutane works to achieve partial or complete clearance of acne in about 95% of people who complete a cycle, regardless of whether they have inflammatory or non-inflammatory acne. The majority of people who take it see their acne effectively cured, experiencing long-term remission of acne symptoms. Studies show an average relapse rate of 25%, and in these cases sometimes a second course is given. This relapse rate is dose-dependent. Patients who receive a cumulative dose of 100-120mg/kg see the best results and lowest relapse rates. Patients who receive a lower dose relapse more frequently. Daily dosage depends on how much the patient weighs;0.5mg – 2mg/kg is typical.

about 3 months. i still broke out a little from time to time while i was on it. it wasn’t until i actually finished that i saw the full results. and it just kept getting better once i was off the drug because the red marks faded. it’s been about 2 years since i stopped and you can’t even tell i ever had acne.

How long does it take for the Accutane to start making your face clear?
Question by alex: How long does it take for the Accutane to start making your face clear?
I have been on accutane for 10 days and my face has gotten all red and dry. Also, I am breaking out much more than normal and my lips are extremely chapped, I hate this! So, when does it finally start to turn around? Anytime soon? What can I use to make this period less painful? Today I bought some Eucerin Redness Relief Moisturizer and Cleanser, maybe that will help? Thanks in advance.
