Buy Generic Duricef Online
GENERIC NAME: cefadroxil
BRAND NAME: Duricef
DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Cefadroxil is an oral antibiotic in the cephalosporin family of drugs, a family that includes cephalexin (Keflex), cefaclor (Ceclor), cefuroxime (Zinacef), cefpodoxime (Vantin), cefixime (Suprax), and many other injectable antibiotics. Cephalosporins stop bacteria from multiplying by preventing bacteria from forming the walls that surround them. The walls are necessary to protect bacteria from their environment and to keep the contents of the bacterial cell together. Bacteria cannot survive without a cell wall. Cephalosporins are most effective when bacteria are actively multiplying and forming cell walls. Cefadroxil is active against many bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Moraxella catarrhalis, E. coli, Klebsiella, and Proteus mirabilis. The FDA approved cefadroxil in 1977.
PRESCRIPTION: Yes
GENERIC AVAILABLE: Yes
PREPARATIONS: Tablets: 1 g. Capsules: 500 mg. Powder for suspension: 125, 250, 500 mg/teaspoon (5 ml).
STORAGE: Cefadroxil should be stored at room temperature, 15-30 C (59-86 F). Once mixed, the suspension should be refrigerated and discarded after 14 days.
PRESCRIBED FOR: Cefadroxil is used for treating infections of the urinary tract, skin and soft- tissue, pharynx (throat), and tonsils (tonsillitis) caused by bacteria that are susceptible to its effects.
DOSING: The recommended adult dose is 1 or 2 grams daily as a single dose or in two divided doses. The recommended dose for children is 30 mg/kg/day as a single dose or two divided doses.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: There are no known clinically important drug interactions associated with cefadroxil.
PREGNANCY: There are no adequate studies of cefadroxil in pregnant women.
NURSING MOTHERS: It is not known if cefadroxil is secreted in breast milk.
SIDE EFFECTS: Cefadroxil generally is well-tolerated. The most common side effects are diarrhea or loose stools, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and rash. Patients who have had allergic reactions to other cephalosporins should not take cefadroxil. Additionally, persons allergic to penicillin or one of its derivatives (for example, amoxicillin or ampicillin) may also be allergic to cefadroxil, although cefadroxil has been used safely in such patients. Serious but rare reactions include seizures, severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), and reduced platelet or red blood cell counts. Cefadroxil can alter the normal bacteria in the colon and encourage overgrowth of some bacteria, specifically, Clostridium difficile which causes inflammation of the colon (pseudomembranous colitis). Patients who develop signs of pseudomembranous colitis after starting cefadroxil (diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, and possibly shock) should contact their physician immediately.

Buy Generic Benemid Online
GENERIC NAME: probenecid
BRAND NAME: Benemid (brand is no longer available)
DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Probenecid is an oral drug used for reducing blood uric acid levels in patients with hyperuricemia (high uric acid) and/or. High uric acid can cause attacks of gout and kidney stones. Probenecid prevents attacks of gout by reducing uric acid levels in the blood. It does this by preventing the reabsorption of uric acid by the kidney and increasing its excretion from the body in the urine. Probenecid also blocks excretion by the kidney of penicillin and related antibiotics and is used for increasing the levels of the antibiotics in the blood and increasing their effectiveness when treating infections.
PRESCRIPTION: Yes
GENERIC AVAILABLE: Yes
PREPARATIONS: Tablets: 0.5 g
STORAGE: Probenecid should be stored at room temperature, 15-30 C (59-86 F).
PRESCRIBED FOR: Probenecid is used for the treatment of hyperuricemia associated with gout. It also is used for increasing blood levels of penicillin-type antibiotics (for example, ampicillin and amoxicillin) when treating gonorrhea.
DOSING: The usual adult dose for hyperuricemia is 500 mg twice daily and the maximum dose is 2 grams daily. When combined with penicillin type antibiotics to treat infections, the usual dose is 500 mg 4 times daily. Patients should drink plenty of water in order to prevent formation of kidney stones and take probenecid with food or antacid to reduce stomach upset.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Probenecid blocks excretion of some drugs by the kidney and, therefore, may increase blood levels and side effects of methotrexate (Rheumatrex, Trexall) and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), for example, ibuprofen (Advil), naproxen (Aleve), indomethacin (Indocin), ketorolac (Toradol) and others. Aspirin may reduce the action of probenecid through unknown mechanisms.
PREGNANCY: Probenecid has not been adequately studied in pregnant women.
NURSING MOTHERS: Probenecid has not been adequately studied in nursing mothers.
SIDE EFFECTS: Common side effects of probenecid include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, sore gums, and fever. Probenecid may cause a flare of gout and kidney stones, and it is not started during an acute attack of gout. Serious but rare side effects include reduced red blood cell counts (anemia), liver damage and severe allergic reactions.

How to use a radioactively labelled probe to locate a gene on a bacteria plasmid?
Say, I have a probe containing the ampicillin resistance gene sequences and a plasmid with the gene coding for ampicillin resistance. Will i be able to use this probe to locate the gene on the plasmid, considering that it’s sequence is the same and not complementary to that of the gene. I’m taking into account the fact that plasmids are double stranded so the part coding for the gene would be double stranded too right?
so let’s say the sequence coding for ampicillin resistance is AAGU (i’m just making it up). Hence the base sequence for this part on the other complementary strand in the plasmid will be UUCA.
Now with a probe containing the sequence AAGU (same as that of the gene), technically i would be able to locate the gene since it will hybridise to the strand with the sequence UUCA am i right?
that’s about it. am i right in this and can you guys correct me if i’m wrong? and suggest a better method if there is? thanks a million!

Why is it impossible for a non-transformed bacteria live in the presence of an antibiotic such as ampicillin?
I really need help with this one, no answer choices are provided. Help with these would be great too, with answer choices provided. Thanks!
1.What is a plasmid?
2.Why is ampicillin more effective than penicillin against gram negative organisms?
3.What is transformation?
4.How do beta-lactam antibiotics function?
5.What is the purpose of the “heat shock” process?
6.We make the bacteria more competent by….
7.Pencillin can be isolated from….
