Q&A: What is a good natural replacement for Prilosec?
Question by maddie mushroom: What is a good natural replacement for Prilosec?
I have been taking Prilosec for years for GERD, or severe heartburn. I would like to get off of it now, but don’t know of anything in alt. med to replace it. Help! and thanks.

I used to have this problem and had to approach it in several ways.
1. Aloe vera juice. Just as aloe vera pulls heat out of a burn on your skin it does the same thing for your stomach. Soothes and heals the mucous membranes. I drank 2-4 ounces daily for a year.
2. Prilosec stops indigestion but also stops digestion. You want to improve your digestion by taking digestive enzymes with every meal. Start with the ones that don’t have HCL–Nature’s Plus has a great capsuled one. You want one that digests starches, proteins and fats.
3. You want to increase the viability of your probiotics. Get one that has acidophilus (lives in small intestines), bifidus (large intestine) and bulgaricus (lives in stomach). Jarrow has one that has 8 not just 3
4. Keep a food diary. You probably have some undiagnosed food allergies. Pay attention to what happens when you eat and you can eliminate the worst offenders.
5. Practice meditation. Learning to calm yourself and live in the present will do a lot for cutting down on physical stress reactions.
6. Make sure you are drinking enough water. 1/2 oz per pound of body weight each day. i.e. 100 pounds–50oz
Don’t drink water with your meals, it will dilute your digestive juices. Drink a large glass when you first get up. Wait 15 minutes before breakfast. Drink you water between meals.

The foil side of the blister pack looks almost the same in the new packaging. The big difference: No perforations to separate individual blister-packed tablets.

Popular heartburn pills face backlash
