Different Types of Acne and Different Treatments: ? Severe Cystic Acne..

Category: AccutanePrescription Search @ 3:39 am

Acne can range in severity from a relatively small number of whiteheads, to a proliferation of cysts and nodules, which can be as physically painful as they are psychologically upsetting.

Severe cystic acne can be resistant to most treatments, and in fact cystic acne treatment can produce side effects that are as upsetting as the condition itself. For the many sufferers of this kind of acne however, refusing treatment is not an option, so here are some things to be aware of before undergoing your cystic acne treatment.

The causes of cystic acne are, like other types of the condition, associated with the over production of oil by glands in the skin. There remains no definitive cure for any of the acne types, and the ways in which available treatments work is not fully understood. Treating cystic acne can be difficult – severe cystic acne is usually resistant to topical treatments, and some of the medications that are commonly used, such as tetracycline. Cystic acne can be extremely upsetting for the sufferer, especially cystic acne in women, and though treating the condition can be harsh, it is usually, thankfully, well worth going through.

The most common tool in treating cystic acne is Accutane, or isotretinoin. Though this is a very effective treatment for severe cystic acne, it can bring unwanted side effects. Here are a few tips to help ease you through your treatment:

Accutane has an extremely drying effect, resulting in chapped lips and dry eyes. You might want to ensure that you carry an effective lip balm with you at all times during treatment, and contact lens wearers might find it more comfortable to return to wearing glasses for the duration of treatment.

Accutane can also cause muscle aches – gentle exercise can help, but ensure that you rest regularly also.

Accutane can have adverse effects on your cholesterol levels and lead to abnormal liver enzyme production. Accutane can also give rise to feelings of depression. Report any changes in your mood or your general health to your doctor straightaway.

Accutane can have extremely damaging effects on a developing fetus, therefore you MUST NOT become pregnant while taking this drug. Ensure that you use birth control at all time during your treatment.

Cystic acne treatment can undoubtedly give rise to certain side effects, but these should all subside once treatment is complete. And for the many patients who have completed treatment, the wonderful results have been well worth it.

Prescriptions For Acne

Category: AccutanePrescription Search @ 11:36 pm

When the acne condition is severe, some of the acne forms that may come about include nodular and cystic. A physician often times needs to drain your cysts. They may last anywhere from weeks to months since they are one of the more severe types of acne. For this type of acne, accutane is a possible treatment. You should seek medical attention first, before you decide to buy accutane to treat this form of acne.

Accutane is known to have some serious side effects, although it is highly recommended for severe types of acne. A prescriber will probably have you read and sign some type of release form covering the side effects before it is given to you. Only once it is verified that you understand and agree to the possible side effects will treatment then begin.

Miscarriages or birth defects in unborn children are some of the serious side effects it causes. Premature births and even still births can be attributed to accutane. You are advised not to take this form of medication if you are an expectant mother or a woman who is planning to get pregnant.

Accutane also gives some psychological side effects. Suicide might be thought of in some patients due to feeling of anxiety, sadness and depression. In people taking this drug, there have been cases of suicide reported. Anger, irritability, loss of social activity, changes in weight and loss of appetite are other symptoms included.

Unfortunately these are just a few of the side effects that can be associated with this drug. Report immediately to a physician if you are a patient on this medication and any of these symptoms are experienced.

Sometimes accutane may be the only way to treat very painful and severe acne.

And, a unique method to Get Rid of Acne once and for all can be found on my site. Click here to find out how YOU can start re-balancing your body today and start the path to lasting clear skin.

Acne Treatments with the Use of Birth Control Pills And Antibiotics

Category: DiflucanPrescription Search @ 10:12 pm

For some female patients, treatment resistant acne is caused by excessive production of hormones called androgens. With extra androgens in your system, your oil producing glands go into high gear  and so does your acne. Several clues can help your doctor identify acne that may be influenced by hormones: acne that appears in adults for the first time acne flare ups preceding the menstrual cycle irregular menstrual cycles hirsutism excessive growth of hair or hair in unusual places and elevated levels of certain androgens in the blood stream.

Adult women and teenage girls whose acne has resisted treatment with antibiotics or topical retinoids may be candidates for hormonal therapy. Once a patients acne is identified as hormonally influenced, the doctor will be able to prescribe a number of different therapies, or perhaps a combination of several different drugs combination therapy is often the best approach to this kind of acne. Following are a few common components of therapy for hormonal acne, but remember to consult your doctor before using any of the remedies listed here.

Acne  Birth Control Pill Oral contraceptives. Birth control pills a combination of estrogen and progestin taken orally are often prescribed for hormonal acne. Low doses of estrogen help suppress the androgens produced by the ovaries, and the newer progestin agents, including desogestrel and norgestimate, are less androgenic than those found in older formulations. While the FDA for this indication currently approves only Ortho Tri Cyclen and Estro Step, experts agree that low-dose contraceptives improve acne regardless of which formula is used. Consult your gynecologist to find the formula that’s right for you. While side effects are uncommon, some women may experience brownish blotches, or melasma hyperpigmentation on the skin. These can be treated with topical bleaching agents.

Acne  Birth Control Pill  Anti androgens. In combination with oral contraceptives, doctors also may prescribe an anti androgen these drugs inhibit androgen production in the ovaries and adrenal glands and help prevent existing androgens from causing excessive oil production. Spironolactone, a high blood pressure medicine with anti androgenic properties, has proven quite effective in the treatment of acne. Side effects may include breast tenderness, menstrual irregularities in women not using oral contraceptives, headache and fatigue since its also a diuretic, you may experience frequent urination as well.

NOTE    Spiranolactone is tetrogenic and can cause feminization of a male fetus. If you are sexually active and not taking the pill, its imperative that you use another form of birth control.

Acne  Birth Control Pill  Corticosteroids. Small doses of corticosteroids, like prednisone or dexamethasone, may curb inflammation and suppress the androgens produced by the adrenal glands. Keep in mind that in some acne sufferers, corticosteroids may actually aggravate acne theyre most effective when used in combination with oral contraceptives.

In conclusion, if you think your acne is hormonally induced, see your doctor right away. While this kind of acne requires a different course of treatment, it is highly treatable. More about your hormones.

For patients who suffer from moderate to severe acne, doctors may prescribe a combination of topical remedies and oral antibiotics. The most common oral medications used to treat acne are tetracycline, minocycline, doxycycline and erythromycin.

Antibiotics for Acne   HOW THEY WORK

Like Benzoyl Peroxide, antibiotics control breakouts by curbing the bodys production of
P. acnes, the bacteria that causes acne, and decreasing inflammation. This process may take several weeks or months, so be patient. And remember, youre not cured just because your breakouts have subsided. That’s the medicine doing its job  so if you stop taking it, your acne will probably come back. Likewise, doubling up on your medication wont make your skin clear up twice as fast. Using your topical antibiotics more frequently than prescribed may actually induce greater follicular irritation and plugging, which slows clearing time. And taking your oral medications more often than prescribed wont help your skin clear faster but it will increase your chance of experiencing unpleasant side effects.

Antibiotics for Acne  WHERE TO GET THEM

If you have moderate to severe acne, consult your dermatologist he or she will discuss your options and help you make the best choice. Once you have begun treatment, give it time to start working. Keep your doctor apprised of your progress, so he or she can make changes to the course of treatment if necessary. And again, do not stop using your medication when your skin clears  let your doctor make that call.

Antibiotics for Acne  COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

With most of the antibiotics used to treat acne, side effects may include photosensitivity higher risk of sunburn, upset stomach, dizziness or lightheadedness, hives, lupus like symptoms and skin discoloration. Some women report a higher incidence of vaginal yeast infection while taking antibiotics these can usually be treated with over the counter antifungal medication or a prescription antifungal, such as diflucan. Tetracycline is not given to pregnant women or children under twelve years of age because it can discolor developing teeth. Lastly and least common, because doxycycline is also the treatment of choice for Lyme disease, there is the theoretical possibility that a patient who takes this medication for a long period of time would build a resistance, and therefore be unable to fight Lyme.

Acne Treatment – Essential Information For Clearing Severe Acne

Category: AccutanePrescription Search @ 7:37 pm

Under the best of circumstances, trying to find an acne treatment that works for you can be difficult. Most treatments for severe acne can be harsh on the skin, causing further irritation, but you can’t let your acne go untreated either, as that risks the possibility of acne scarring.

One of the oldest acne treatments for severe acne is Accutane, or its generic counterparts, which are a derivative of Vitamin A. Accutane is extremely effective for getting control of severe acne, and can sometimes virtually bring an end to acne breakouts. The drawback is the toxicity of Accutane, which causes a long list of undesirable side effects.

Essentially Accutane causes your oil glands to shut down during the treatment period, which typically lasts four to five months. Because you are not secreting any oils, your skin becomes very dry, which many users report as feeling like a sunburn. Accutane users also report that nosebleeds are very common, as well as hair loss. It has also a tendency to make users feel very depressed. Although Accutane can get acne problems under control, the side effects make it an option that should be used sparingly.

Antibiotics as an acne treatment are also very effective. There are a variety of antibiotics used, but, like Accutane, some forms have some undesirable side effects. Minocycline, one of the oldest antibiotics used to treat acne, has a reputation as being the most toxic. Doctors still prescribe it since the body is slow to build up immunity, but they are increasingly using other, more gentle, antibiotics despite the tendency for users to build up immunity.

If you suffer from severe acne, you might opt for a more direct acne treatment. Intra-lesional corticosteroid injections made directly into the cystic nodule have proven to be most effective. The injections act quickly, helping to reduce the swelling much in the same way cortisone injections would for an injured knee or back, though they do create discoloration. Although the treatments work well, intra-lesional corticosteroid injections are only successful on existing cystic nodules.

Lasers have also become a popular acne treatment recently. Not only can lasers treat acne, they can also remove acne scarring. However, because these lasers are currently unregulated, anyone can purchase and legally use these lasers. The danger is that an inexperienced practitioner may overexpose a patient to the laser, causing permanent damage.

There are two types of lasers, ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers are the oldest and strongest variety, and they essentially vaporize the outer layer of skin, much like removing a tattoo. When this outer layer of skin grows back, acne scars and wrinkles are greatly reduced. The extreme heat produced by ablative lasers cause your oil glands to shrink, which prevents breakouts.

Because your skin is burned off, treatment from ablative lasers will make your face red and sore for several weeks. Non-ablative lasers are newer and gentler than older lasers.

Non-ablative lasers also shrink the oil glands, but since they do not vaporize your skin, there is usually no soreness or visible side effects. Non-ablative lasers also promote collagen growth, so they also remove acne scarring. Because non-ablative lasers are less harsh, they will require more than one treatment session, while an ablative laser treatment consists of only one session.

Severe acne has never been pleasant and the acne scars reach much deeper than what a person might see on the surface. The long-term effects of acne are damaging, both physically and psychologically. There is hope and more than one type of acne treatment to choose from, though do be aware of potential risks.

Top Three Best Acne Treatments in the World

Category: AccutanePrescription Search @ 6:43 pm

When you’re looking for the best acne treatments, you need to consider what you shouldn’t take as much as what you should take.  In several cases, the cure for the acne disease is often worse than dealing with the acne itself.

Sometimes the best acne treatments are the holistic ones.  Even though holistic acne treatments are not necessarily as potent as prescription medications, they usually don’t cause the skin and internal organ damage that many prescription medicines cause in acne patients.

So what are some of the “best acne treatments” doctors usually recommend that you should avoid?  Here are just a sampling.

1. Tetracycline: I took Tetracycline for several months, and was very pleased with how it worked.  Then, I began to have trouble digesting my food, and soon I was diagnosed with acid reflux disease.  My specialist told me he sees this in many acne patients who take Tetracycline.  Why?

Because their dermatologists told them to take it before bedtime, which meant that the medicine would dissolve in my stomach and creep its way up my esophagus while I was lying down in bed, eroding it away and causing acid reflux disease.  Needless to say, I quit Tetracycline cold turkey.

2. Accutane: Many acne patients take Accutane when they think there’s no other alternative.  Usually these patients have severe acne and severe acne scars and are looking for an extreme kind of relief.  I don’t blame them, but usually Accutane makes more of a mess of your body than it helps.

According to Accutane’s own warnings, Accutane can cause feelings of depression and suicide.  These symptoms have been found in many acne patients, and unfortunately, simply discontinuing the use of Accutane doesn’t fix the new problems.  They usually need counseling.  In addition, Accutane also causes severe flaky, dry skin, which often leads to bleeding.  It can also cause internal organs harm, and it cannot be taken by pregnant women under any circumstances, as the fetus will turn out deformed.

3. Tretinoin cream: Tretinoin cream is one step below Retin-A in severity, and it is a prescription topical treatment.  While effective, it can cause extremely dry, scaly skin, and is typically rather difficult to reverse as far as the effects it causes.  If you must use Tretinoin cream, take it in very small quantities, and don’t use very much at one time.

So what is a better option than these three acne treatments? I’ve found the best acne treatments, like I mentioned, are usually in the holistic category. Things like aloe vera, zinc, and vitamin C are often your best bets when it comes to acne prevention and elimination. If you visit http://www.easyskintreatment.com/acnefree, you will be able to find out a lot more how to heal your acne safely and cost effectively.
