I Have Strep

Word came through from my doc. It’s strep. I last had it sixty years ago, and they yanked my tonsils. In those days, the hospital was a converted house just north of the arena in Orangeville, Ontario. Pretty primitive, but then, in mom’s day, tonsillectomies were performed on the kitchen table at home. Talk about convenience. And the adults thought it was hilarious to promise kids ice cream if they were good. C’mon now, who wanted to eat anything after a tonsillectomy? Dad had just bought a 78 RPM album of songs by The Weavers, and while I was lying on the downstairs Chesterfield, he put the records on the drop-down spindle of our Stromberg Carlson radio/record player. First time I ever heard "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" and "Good Night Irene"—classics both.

Truth be told, I am a lot better. The soreness and pain are gone, but the voice is weak, and I’m still a tad flushed. Talked to my daughter, Meg, on the phone, and it wasn’t long until the voice was gone.

I will be around to see you today and tomorrow, but it will be over a longer period of time.

Housekeeping Matters:

Yesterday I said I had been flat on my mattress for 5 days. Stating that I had been catching up on daytime TV, I asked if anyone knew how many times Victor and Nikki have been married and divorced. Answer? three times, and they may be working on #4, but the writers do love to throw those curves.

I also ranted about my abhorrence for the Grey Power commercial. I Googled it about six months ago, and nothing much came up. Googled again last night, and some great stuff emerged. Turns out the Grey Power bitch is a well-educated local girl, and if it’s any comfort, the commercial is really annoying to her, too. She thinks the the ad has been running far too long. To those of you have suffered with me, it should be pulled by the end of the year.

Actually, they are my antibiotics. And I think they are very pretty. I took some penicillin before these and I was allergic to them and I got even more sick. These guys are saving my life.

POTD 02/15/07 – Halfway there

I’m halfway done with my antibiotics now! I can’t wait to be done with them!

For some reason each time I shoot my antibiotics I have a strange desire to process it lighter and lighter. Next thing you know and I’ll be posting plain white images and calling it good!
