Some cool W images:

April Rain (B&W)
W

O.K. B&W is not my personal special topic, but I thought that this shot should look great in B&W as well, as that even that it’s a flower it doesn’t live so much from the color but more from the patterns and of course the waterdrop. The basic version of this shot can be found here. The more I look at it, the more I think about it, the more the B&W version gets my personal favorite.

The Motive
A Narcissus pseudonarcissus with a drop of the april rain that just ended. I love the waterdrop, that is so bright in the sun shining on it. It reminds me to the pearl in an oyster. Especially nice is the reflection of the pattern of the leaf in the waterdrop.

Technical
Taken with the EF-S 60mm macro on a Canon EOS 350D (=Rebel XT) at magnification of 1:1. It was fun to take this shot, but it was a cold and wet fun. I had to lay down in the wet grass to take this shot. I hope this doesn’t cause me a cold – but then, this picture is worth a few days coughing and sneezing. B&W conversion using channel mixer tool in monochromatic mode (40% blue, 25% red, 35% green and overall -8%).

Belsen Cross 2 b&w
W

Bergen Belsen.

Shortly after the camp was liberated in 1945 a cross was raised here by the ex-prisoners, as a memorial to all those who died. The cross has been replaced several times since that initial simple memorial was raised, but it remains in the same spot. (An interesting conclusion is that although Belsen was horrific for the Jews, and I would never deny that, we must never forget that it was hell on earth for many others too.)

Between 1943 and 1945, an estimated 50,000 European civilians died in the concentration camp. Towards the end of the war it was used as a place to send ill prisoners from other concentration camps. It is perhaps most (in)famous as the place that Anne Frank died.

"I am not a Hobson, a Dewey, a Schley, nor a Sampson, but I was a High Private in Co. C., 8th N. Y. Cavary, and carried this little Testament in my blouse pocket, which in two battles, saved my life from bullets, as represented in the above photo. The bullet in the upper corner was shot at me at Cedar Creek, Va., October 19, 1864. The bullet in the centre crashed into the Testament during the battle of Appomattox (better known as Lee’s surrender), April 8th and 9th, 1865. Walter G. Jones
