Do erectile dysfunction medications like Cialis and Viagra become less effective over time?
I am a 76 year old man who began using ED medication five years ago. The first one prescribed by my doctor was Viagra. Upon first taking it, it was remarkably effective. It soon became less and less effective, and my doctor switched me to Cialis. This was no better. At this time it is only slightly better than not taking it at all. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced a “fade” in the effectivenessof their ED medication. What, if anything, can be done about it? I am in excellent health. As yet, I have not discussed this with my doctor. The honest experiences of other users of ED medication would be appreciated.

I was just perscribed an antibiotic, but I’m in college and I like to drink alcohol. Risks in mixing?
I was perscribed Bactrim, an antibiotic usually used for ear infections and such, to treat my acne. When I go back to college though, I have every intention of drinking alcohol on the weekends (I don’t drink ridiculously dangerous amounts, but enough to have fun.) I’m worried about the possible effects of drinking while on this medication. Will it just decrease the antibiotic’s ability to work, or make me more succeptible to intoxication? Or is it an actually dangerous combination?

Why do doctors hand out statins like they are candy to people who don’t even have very high cholesterol levels
One doctor prescribed 4 different statins to my husband over a period of a few years. Each one caused serious chest pains! He had to go to a cardiologist and get tests to figure to that it was the statins (which cause cardiac and muscle wasting in some people), and he was otherwise very healthy. Then I had some cholesterol levels that got high after going on Atkins. My doctor prescribed “Zetia” (a drug that is not a statin but has similar side effects) and I also developed some muscle problems that led to an injury and a few months of physical therapy. Guess what? I figured it out and within 2 days of stopping Zetia, everything was almost back to normal!
Don’t tell me that this side-effect is “rare”! It’s probably present to some extent in a large fraction of the population. Doctors are handing statins, fosamax and anti-depressants (which I refuse to take) like candy. Go ahead and blame it on the patients if you like. It’s all about the money for some of you.

Doctors says that anti cholesterol drugs like lipitor are harmless, long term. True? False? Nobody knows?
I know that liver needs to be checked and if you get muscle pains you need to discontinue. But say none of these are problems. Do we know that these drugs are safe for long term. Have they been tested on human for long term?. One need to stay on them for forever. And the way these doctors are behaving now a days, they prescribe them even for moderately high cholesterol situations. My doctor tells me that lipitor should be put in tap water so that EVERYBODY can have it!!

Is it okay to take stomach medicine (like Prevacid) the night before endoscopy?
I take Prevacid for acid reflux at night, and I am having an endoscopy tomorrow. The written instructions say not to eat eight hours before the procedure, and it says it’s okay to take heart medicine. But there is nothing written whether it is okay to take stomach medicine more than eight hours before the procedure. (It would be about eleven hours before the procedure now) I started searching online, and one site says you should not take any antacids the day of the test because it could interfere with the reading – but I don’t know if I can take it the night before. Since I won’t be allowed to drink water in a few hours, I won’t be able to do anything for the heartburn then, so I wanted to take the medicine now, but not if it will interfere with my test later on. I got conflicting advice from my family, so I’m not sure what to do.
